Does God turn his back on you if you have strayed away from him multiple times?

Dear Pam,

This is a very common question that  many people of faith have struggled with, but it is easily answered emphatically, NO WAY.

The problem with this mindset stems from a faulty view of God. We often assume that God somehow fits into what we know of human relationships which are broken and people do turn their back on us if we disappoint them enough.  However, God is not human and what Christ did on the cross proved how much he loves us.

In fact it’s just the opposite, when we are turning our back on him he is still facing us and calling to us, romancing us if we just take time to listen. As it says in Hebrews 13:5 “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you”. These are some pretty powerful statements that show what kind of God we are in relationship with. In 2 Timothy 2:13 it says “if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” Another example of the tenacity of His love and commitment to us.
