God Has Never Been Disappointed In You!
I don’t know about you, but for me growing up in a very fundamental Christian church, I was fed a lot of false doctrine.
These people didn’t mean to bring harm, but because of their lack of understanding the character of God, they in turn poisoned others’ minds with this ignorance. As I’ve confronted some of these beliefs and have sought out God for myself, I discovered that much of what I was taught about God was indeed wrong.
One such concept is that God has been disappointed in me. I was told “obey or you will disappoint God”, “Do His will or He will be disappointed” or when I misbehaved “God must be disappointed in you for doing such a thing” . So this left me with knowing I could never measure up and God must be constantly disappointed in me, looking at me with a big frown on His face.
As an adult, I began to understand God better and began to question this doctrine or belief. Recently I read a book called “The Shack” and it really put that doctrine through the ringer. I never thought about it in exactly that way, but the book explained the fallacy of this belief the following way. If God knows all, like the Bible and the Church say, then it would be impossible for Him to be disappointed because He already knows what we will do. Since He knows the outcome their isn’t expectations placed on us and therefore no disappointment.
How freeing it is to know the truth, God has never been disappointed in me, I have never let him down, and He looks down at me with a smile on His face. I’m free to be me and to love Him freely, doing what His love leads me to do.
The same is true for you, my friend, God has never been disappointed in you and you don’t have to meet his expectations. You are free to love Him and let Him love you. There is no pressure to perform or do His will, He loves you for you and for no other reason.
