I’m a big advocate of mental counseling which is why I decided to be a part of the profession.
The mind, body, spirit connection is so powerful that if one of these elements is out of sync then the person struggles and has difficulty feeling happy or content with life. So why is mental counseling so important? Well, because this is usually the part of the triad that’s left out.
In certain terms it can be easy to join a gym or start some kind of fitness program and perhaps do some spirit work by going to church, praying, volunteering etc. However, committing to working on faulty thinking patterns and destructive cycles of behavior is difficult in comparison. Perhaps we think if we just get healthy and look better, of if we just get religion then everything else will work itself out.
Unfortunately, often without some sort of mental counseling in a professional setting you can be the fittest at the gym, the most spiritual acting at church, but your life will still be a train wreck. Lets face it, in the world we find ourselves living, it is hard to escape the damage that dysfunctional families and relationships can bring. The child that has made it to adulthood well adjusted, in touch with themselves, and positive is rare.
Receiving counseling for mental health is not something to be ashamed of or something to put off. If you want to have the life you always dreamed of having then it’s time to get to the bottom of the issues that have been holding you back. I urge you to find a good counselor who you gel with and perhaps get your feet wet by using the Ask a Counselor feature on this website.
The path to being complete, healthy, and connected to God often begins with opening yourself up to Mental Counseling.
