why-a-am-I-so-fatiguedWhere do I begin, I am your typical teenager with unique qualities, thoughts, and dreams. I like to draw, I write poems, and I’m pretty healthy…I hope.

However, I cant seem to figure out why it’s so hard for me to get out of bed in the morning or why I suddenly get tired and don’t want to do anything, now it’s not laziness because I’m up and about playing with kids, working out, and I’m hyperactive. I could say I just enjoy sleeping, but I believe its a little more complex than that, like I emotionally depend on sleep.

There are only 3 things I find of high importance which are food, sleep, and music. I’m not overweight, I’m very skinny actually. Yes, once upon a time I was depressed, but I got over that or at least I thought. It might not seem like a problem, but it effects me greatly like my memory or getting up for school, I just don’t have the will power anymore.

The feelings I have are depressing it’s like something horrible happened to me along time ago then I got amnesia (but not really though). I just cant remember my childhood. Stress is a option with all the stuff that is going on in my life right now, but how do you cope with that? I can’t just go on a vacation. Please help me understand.

Dear Creation852,

Thanks for writing and it sounds like you are having trouble motivating yourself to live life and do what you have to do. A couple things did come to mind as I read about your situation.

The first thing I think you should consider is your health. There are a couple of health issue that could be going on with you that could explain your fatigue. First go to the doctor and explain your situation and they can run some tests. Perhaps you have mono (glandular fever)? This virus really can cause people to feel the way you do. You could also be hypoglycemic which means your blood sugar isn’t being regulated properly. This can definitely cause the feelings/symptoms described above.

The second thing that comes to mind is the stress you mentioned. Stress defiantly can take it’s tool on our bodies and our emotions. If this is the case, and you can’t take a vacation as you said, then you have to look at how you are dealing with your stress and maybe come up with some strategies to cope with it in a healthier way. Some examples of this would be, first, to make sure you have someone to talk to about what’s going on in your life. Someone that you can be totally open and honest with. Perhaps a parent, a sibling, a pastor, or a school counselor. Also, some type of physical activity can help people get rid of stress. Running, weight training, yoga, or even boxing are great ways to get rid of your frustrations. Thirdly, you need to take time for yourself. This could be meditation/prayer, art, poetry, music, or even a nap.

It’s great that you are trying to understand what’s wrong with you and you want life to get better. That’s a great first step. I pray the best for you and hope you begin to feel more motivated real soon.

Sincerely,

Ted
